Senior Data Scientist
Overview
Hudl is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Global Football Metrics data science team, focused on delivering innovative machine learning models that keep Hudl at the cutting edge of sports analytics.
Job Description
At Hudl, we build great teams. We hire the best of the best to ensure you’re working with people you can constantly learn from. You’re trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what’s possible and what’s next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it—their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces. We think of ourselves as the team behind the team, supporting the lifelong impact sports can have: the lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring coaches; and the opportunities to reach new heights. That’s why we help teams from all over the world see their game differently. Our products make it easier for coaches and athletes at any level to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and more.
Responsibilities
- - Work with a cross-functional team. You'll collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Product, Design and Scrum disciplines to deliver cutting-edge tactical and recruitment insights.
- - Develop and deliver. You'll have access to industry-leading data from a variety of sources, and will contribute to the research and development of new Global Football models and metrics, taking ownership of specific workstreams end-to-end.
- - Test new ideas. At Hudl, we iterate rapidly, deploying changes to the product hundreds of times daily. You'll work on concrete metrics and contribute to scalable data pipelines and associated orchestration and monitoring tools.
- - Raise the bar. You'll share your expertise with teammates, contribute to code reviews and technical discussions, and uphold high standards of statistical rigour across the team.
Required Skills
- - A strong background in a quantitative discipline, with proven experience implementing statistical and machine learning models for inference in complex systems.
- - You understand that problem-solving is a collaborative effort and actively support the growth of those around you.
- - You're motivated by seeing your work used by real people to solve real problems.
- - You have solid engineering skills and the curiosity to go deep in new areas when the role demands it.
- - Experience with event or tracking data is a plus.
- - Our stack is Python, PostgreSQL and Redshift. We'll consider strong candidates with R or Stan experience, but prefer those capable of writing production-quality, full-stack code.
Benefits
- - We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time above any required statutory leave, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more).
- - We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
- - We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
- - We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech you need to do your best work.
- - Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees—but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.
